Overview
A long-term study by Han H, Hu J, Lee DH, Zhang Y, Giovannucci E, Stampfer MJ, et al. (2026) (1) involving over 110,000 men and women found that engaging in multiple types of physical activity lowers the risk of death by up to 19%.
A variety of different kinds of workouts and physical activity reduces mortality due to cancer, heart disease, and respiratory ailments by 13 to 41%.
It was already known that higher physical activity levels are associated with lower mortality. However, this study found that a variety of physical activities was associated with lower mortality, independent of total physical activity (PA) levels.
